To provide a range of activities for young people, including:

Homework High

Ssupported access to Internet and word processing resources to assist young people in the completion of ‘homework’ related tasks.

Support for website creation

Linked to opportunities for certification as well to develop skills in communication, photography and design including Bebo creation/maintenance .

Animation

Developing skills using basic animation software.

Video/video editing

Transferring skills such as video/image manipulation using the latest in video technology and editing software for both PC and Apple Mac.

Music creation

Flexible learning with CD and web publishing options. Music activities would include inter-neighbourhood forums for exchange of files and leads to samples etc based on common taste shared across geographical boundaries. Providing access to new and innovative music equipment such as The Tokyo Motion Dive (virtual DJ), Kaoss pad and Micro Korg.

Internet and email

Support and safe use of this as well as safe chat system environment (requiring registration and ID confirmation).

Part-time flexible learning opportunities

For traditional college provision like business applications and general introduction to ICT.

Multi-player games

Including development of local leagues as appropriate, which is developing interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as ICT related skills .

The Pathfinder is part of Glasgow East Learning Network supported by Glasgow Community Planning Partnership East Area and John Wheatley College, Scottish Charity No. SCO21200.

Ground Rules

The programme is based on simple initial ground rules, which the Youth Access Workers are happy to discuss and negotiate with groups of young people:

  • Respect yourself
  • Respect the people who use the learning centres and the network
  • Respect the staff who work for the learning centres and the network
  • Respect the machines and the buildings which make up the network

The Youth Access workers are the front-line staff of the programme, supporting groups of young people, together with commission teachers from John Wheatley College, in the area of choice for the young people.
