Provan Hall is one of the oldest buildings in Glasgow, dating back to the fifteenth century. It is owned by the National Trust and managed by Glasgow City Council. The atmospheric museum with its resident ghosts, and the building's attractive parkland setting, combine to make it an excellent venue for a class history trip.
A dig into the background of Provan Hall
The Provan Hall community archaeology project is seeking around £100,000 to involve local groups in the Easterhouse area including schoolchildren, pensioners, a group from the local special needs school, the local history society and many others.
With help from the National Trust for Scotland, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, John Wheatley College and Provanhall Housing Association, local people will work with experts on a year long archaeological dig to help uncover the lost history of one of Glasgow’s most important historic buildings.
Provan Hall
Provan Hall stands in the grounds of Auchinlea Park in Glasgow. It shares a central courtyard with Blochairn House, both A-listed buildings. Provan Hall, which is the older of the two, is thought to have been built in the later half of the 15th century. The exact date of construction is not known but some architectural features dates it as old as Provans Lordship's House (1471) at Glasgow High Street, or even older. The estate of Provan Hall once covered an area of about 5,000 acres, stretching from Springburn to Bishop Loch, and from Shettleston to Garthamlock.
Restoration! - Not the T.V. Programme, the Real Thing!
Plans are well under way to carry out major restoration work on both houses at Provan Hall. Both are A-listed, one probably dates from the 15th Century, the other built in the 18th Century appears to incorporate older work. This involves the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust as well as the National Trust for Scotland and the City Council as owners and tenants respectively. We hope to be able to give up-to date reports on this in the future.

An inaugural meeting of Friends of Provanhall was held at Provanhall 3rd of August 2006.
The aims of the Friends of Provanhall group are to support and promote all aspects of this site and to raise the profile of Provan Hall within a local, citywide and National context. An early aim for the group will be to help restore Provan Hall to its former glory as both an important civic amenity and an attractive location for locals and visitors.
See more at the Friends of Provanhall page.
