Country to the City at Provan Hall

Country to the City has been running as an annual event at Provan Hall since 2002, organised by Land Services Parks Development Team.

What is Country to the City?

Country to the City is an educational awareness day showing the importance of parks as habitats for wildlife and giving school children hands on experience of country life in their local park.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To give primary 6 children throughout Glasgow the opportunity to participate in an educational awareness day in their local park.
  • Develop an awareness of environmental issues using the park as a living classroom.
  • Demonstrate the importance of parks and green spaces and their role in promoting sustainable development, and as habitats for wildlife.
  • Promote the history and development, and encourage greater use of parks in Glasgow.

The children are able to participate, interact with and see demonstrations in:

  • Weaving, Basketry and Dyeing with plants
  • A Blacksmith/ Farrier at work
  • Countryside Ranger activities
  • Horse and Dray Rides
  • Sheepdog demonstrations
  • Talks on Falconry and Highland Cattle
