Students All Fired Up for Skills

Delivered by the highly skilled staff of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Maryhill Station, the ‘Fire Reach’ short course contained essential elements such as Working Safely, First Aid, Confidence Building and, of course, Team Working.

16 Days of Action for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

glasgow's sixteen days of action to eliminate violence against women.For many women from Glasgow, to Gaberone, home is not the place they can relax knowing that their wellbeing will be taken care of. Instead it is the place where they are most likely to experience hurt, harm or danger.

The Community Health Shop re-launch

The Community Health Shop has recently moved premises and held a launch event Friday 21st October 2011, that was well attanded by local politicians, senior members from NHSGGC, local agencies and a large number of the local population.

The Peoples Gateway ProjectThe Peoples Gateway

On a daily basis local people come into the hub, Innerzone, The Connie and hubSports asking if there are any volunteering opportunities, jobs or training.  Although we did our best to help and have over the years provided opportunities for over 150 people there was only so much that we could with the staff resources we had.

The newly formed Peoples Gatewaydn project is now providing the extra support and staff to help all local residents.

New autumn programme at Tollcross Advice and Learning Centre

Our Advice Services, Credit Union Service and Learning Centre are still going from strength to strength, as is our Volunteer Project and Library. We have now added a 'Work Club' to our programme aimed at assisting people to access employment or training opportunities.

Signing of agreement between Open University and John Wheatley College for learning routes for local peoplle.A new partnership launched the 31 August 2011 between the Open University in Scotland and John Wheatley College will give local people access to one of the country’s most flexible and comprehensive learning packages.

Playbusters Gets the Royal Seal of Approval

 

It was cheers all round from volunteers at Glasgow�s East End based charity, Playbusters, as they received an announcement that they had been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

The Queens Award is the voluntary sector equivalent of an MBE. It is awarded annually to voluntary groups to recognise and reward their outstanding achievement in helping others in the community...
