On Tuesdays between 1pm and 3pm there is a lecturer from John Wheatley College and a student placement from University of Glasgow on hand to help people learn more about computers for everyday life.

Now recruitment: 16+ Access Fairbridge programme,
Fairbridge Programme with the Princes's Trustwith the Prince’s Trust

The recruitment process for the upcoming Prince’s Trust Fairbridge programme 'Access courses' is now open. This is providing an opportunity for young people to work on personal and social skills that will help with stabilisation and moving on to positive outcomes.

Next course start dates: 18 February 2013

Access courses are five days long and include a two night residential where young people will participate in a number of outdoor activities.

Who can apply?

  • Age 16-25
  • Not currently involved in Employment, Education or Training

 

The Prince’s Trust has a national agreement with Jobcentre Plus which allows young people in receipt of benefits to stay on their benefits while on the course.

DIY and woodwork course helping to empower people at Lodging House Mission

Lodging House Mission assist some of Glasgow's most disadvantaged citizens - homeless and excluded men and women. Most of them are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, severe and enduring mental health issues, all of them living challenging difficult lives. The Big Lottery funded education programme - Pathways to Empowerment aims to build people’s confidence and skills in order for them to access training and employment opportunities.

The Students’ Association at John Wheatley College in East Glasgow has been named as a finalist in two separate categories at this year’s NUS Scotland Awards.

The Community Health Shop has recently moved premises and held a launch event Friday 21st October 2011, that was well attanded by local politicians, senior members from NHSGGC, local agencies and a large number of the local population.

On a daily basis local people come into the hub, Innerzone, The Connie and hubSports asking if there are any volunteering opportunities, jobs or training.  Although we did our best to help and have over the years provided opportunities for over 150 people there was only so much that we could with the staff resources we had.

The newly formed Peoples Gatewaydn project is now providing the extra support and staff to help all local residents.

Playbusters Gets the Royal Seal of Approval

 

It was cheers all round from volunteers at Glasgow�s East End based charity, Playbusters, as they received an announcement that they had been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service.

The Queens Award is the voluntary sector equivalent of an MBE. It is awarded annually to voluntary groups to recognise and reward their outstanding achievement in helping others in the community...
