The Peoples Gateway Project
On a daily basis local people come into the hub, Innerzone, The Connie and hubSports asking if there are any volunteering opportunities, jobs or training. Although we did our best to help and have over the years provided opportunities for over 150 people there was only so much that we could with the staff resources we had.
The newly formed Peoples Gatewaydn project is now providing the extra support and staff to help all local residents.
Local Success Story!
Ian Sturrock was the first person to sign up for Peoples Gateway Job Club on 1st September 2011. Ian has been attending the job club every week, applying for jobs on-line or by telephone.
Ian was offered the opportunity to apply for a place at John Wheatley College in Sport, Recreation and Youth Work. He was accepted on to the course and started on 12th October – meanwhile an employer that Ian had contacted offered him some temporary shifts in a recycling plant in Bargeddie, all in the same week!
As Ian had been part of Peoples Gateway, Wellhouse Futures Foundation helped out with travelling expenses to allow Ian to get to work and college.
When asked about the help and encouragement Ian has received his response was:
Without the help from Peoples Gateway and Wellhouse Futures, I would not have had this opportunity to change my life – I would recommend everyone to give it a go – it could change your life!
Ian Sturrock aged 21 yrs old.
