Inspection results confirm local college excellence!
Results from the HMIe (Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education) recent inspection of John Wheatley College in East Glasgow have identified the high quality learning experience it provides to its learners and the community.
The review
The review took place in November and examined:
- learning,
- learner engagement
- quality.
This was done through interviews and discussions with learners, staff, all levels of management, the board, local employers and partner and community groups.
Commitment to learners and quality
Impressed by the college’s clear commitment to its learners and a quality ethos, the review team’s findings highlighted the college’s culture of equality, diversity and sustainability in an environment where learners are well respected and supported by staff and fellow students. The college instils a strong sense of ownership in its learners, helping them to progress well and achieve relevant high quality outcomes.
Learners play an active role in college life
Working with the college’s committed and motivated staff, the HMIe Team observed that learners play an active role in college life where there is a culture which enables them to build their confidence and self-esteem.
Words from the management and the principal
Andy Woolley, chair of the college’s board of management, said:
This is excellent news for John Wheatley College, its students and staff. The final report reflects the commitment and ongoing hard work done by everyone.
Principal Ian Graham agreed:
High quality learning is the bedrock of John Wheatley College’s role in this community and we are delighted that such a positive review recognises the work of learners and staff in this respect.
Over the last 21 years the College has developed its services and learning provision in response to local needs and we are heartened that the culture of support and encouragement engendered here continues to create an environment which helps residents access opportunities and reach their goals, however long or challenging their learning journey. The College is happy in the knowledge that these students go on to make a significant contribution to the development and regeneration of their local community.
Strong working relationships with our community partners have ensured that the College is able to provide and influence a wide range of services to support our learners during their time at John Wheatley College.
The clear commitment of students, staff and our partner organisations is to be commended - the hard work is ongoing.
