Reclaim the Night

16 Days of Action
for the Elimination of Violence
Against Women 2008

25th November - 10th December

In 1999 the UN adopted a resolution designating the 25th November “International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women”. The ‘16 Days of Action’ culminates on 10th December, the International Human Rights Day. Two dates symbolically linked, to highlight that violence against women is a violation of basic human rights. In 2008, the international theme for the ‘16 Days of Action’ is around women's human rights - the right to be free from male violemce.

Since 1970s, women across the the world have come together to reclaim our right to freedom from violence and abuse on the streets, in our homes, our scholls and our workplace - rape, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, sexual harassment, domestic abuse, commercial sexual exploitation, trafficking and murder.

The rape crisis centre in Glasgow are organising a march and rally on 25th November 2008 to mark the ‘16 Days of Action’ and to make our voice heard when we say: Stop Male Violence Against Women!
