Flexible Learning Opportunities
JWC Flexible Learning Units
John Wheatley College has two main flexible learning units in which you can enrol for a flexible learning course, and we also offer flexible learning opportunities in the community through our Widening Access programme.
Skills development
In the flexible learning units you can develop your skills in using computers with a range of informal and certificated opportunities for you, depending on your interest and previous experience.
Flexible learning means you can pick your times to attend and get tutor support, and can choose other times for practice as suits.
Individual learning at different levels - getting you qualifications
We have courses suiting beginners and more experienced computer users and we can offer an individual learning programme for you supporting business, leisure and creative uses of computers. Our support for qualifications includes two British Computer Society awards:
- The European Computer Driving Licence which provides a certificate for Business application use (word processing, spreadsheets, databases etc) recognised widely by employers
- The new Digital Cre8or award which supports creative use of image, audio, video and animation software for publication to a wider audience.
Our starting point is a conversation between the course tutor and you, working out your starting point and your interests so that we can agree your course.
In the flexible learning units in our main campuses, your course options include:
- Having fun with computers
- Using a Keyboard
- Using the Web and Email
- Information Technology Applications software 1 and 2
- European Computer Driving Licence
- Digital Cre8or
… but please feel free to discuss your particular interests and we’ll try to help.
Can I study in my community?
The College, as a community planning partner, supports local people who wish to study in local learning centres. These centres are based throughout the communities in the east of Glasgow and can be contacted on phone numbers below.
Cranhill Beacon, Helenvale, Lodging House Mission and Tollcross LC
Each of the Learning Centres also provides a wide range of learning and leisure opportunities in their local community – for more information, contact your local centre.
Students are also welcomed at the learning centres; if it’s easier for you to work on projects or access the Internet to help your studies nearer home, you can also do this in your local community.
