Services

Baillieston HC

Baillieston HC is mainly a clinical service. This means that it is for people who have something they want to speak about to the nurse or doctor. This does not mean that you are not welcome to come and have a look around. We have music, magazines, leaflets and refreshments available as well as members of staff who can explain further what we do.

Reasons to see the staff may include bullying, exam stress, drugs, alcohol or sexual health. We have a special nurse who, along with the doctor, can help you with decisions about relationships, risky behaviour and contraception.

H4U Teen Health @ East End Health Living Centre

H4U Teen Health @ EEHLC is mainly a health promotion service. This means that it is more about enabling you to access information that can improve you and your family’s health. This service is more about FUN. It tries to make the information more interesting and exciting than in normal places like at school or at the doctors’ surgery.

We always start with everybody’s news and a game. After that we go into groups for the topic of the week. This is all decided by the young people who attend including the working agreement

We have had plenty of different sessions and regular fun nights. Our links with Urban Fox mean that you can also access their youth services. This includes games, dancing, outward bound, sports, video games (come and try the Wii!)

Listening Ear

Listening Ear is our counselling service. It is available on Monday and Tuesday evenings and a Wednesday afternoon. We have organised rooms all over the East End of Glasgow for you to meet our counsellor. If you want to use a venue you know or want somewhere people won’t know you then we can fix that. You could come to the counsellor if you are feeling down, aren’t getting on with friends or family, you get angry but don’t know why or perhaps somebody close to you has died. Whatever the reason, you will be made welcome in a friendly atmosphere. If you come along you can see the counsellor for up to eight times, but normally people only visit 4-5 times.

Emotional Intelligence (EI)

Emotional Intelligence is a school based service. This is offered to the seven high schools in the area, Lochend, Bannerman, Eastbank, St. Andrews, Whitehill, St. Mungo’s and Smithycroft. It is aimed at S1 and S3 pupils but your school can pick whichever year it feels will benefit most. At EI you will be able to learn more about your feelings, why they occur, what they are for and how you can deal with them. You will be chosen for this programme by your Pastoral Care Teacher but if you are interested, let them know.

C-Card

C-Card is a free condom distribution service. If you are 13 or over you can ask our doctors and nurses about this service. We have strict guidelines as to whom and why we give these out but once you are registered you will be able to take your card to any C-Card site to access free condoms. We feel this is one of the best ways to improve the sexual health of young people, providing condoms and advice in a safe way.

Text4U

Text4U is an information by text service. Most young people own or have access to a mobile phone. Most young people don’t know where to access health services. This service combines these facts to provide up to date, immediate information. Just text a keyword and where you live, like ‘condoms easterhouse’, and you will receive a text within minutes from the database with details of your local service. If you want to know the meaning of a word, just text the keyword. By texting ‘pregnant’, for example, you will get a definition within minutes from the database. This is NOT a premium rate line; you will be charged the normal cost of a text from your provider.
