Positive Mental Attitudes

Positive Mental Attitudes Positive Mental Attitudes (PMA) is a mental health awareness project, seeking to address the stigma experienced by people with mental health problems and promote positive attitudes towards mental health in Easterhouse.

The project has taken forward, designed and now implements different interventions with employers, public service front line staff, schools, colleges and community organisations, in order to raise awareness of mental health and reduce stigma. How we feel and think is central to the way we live our lives. Just like our physical health, our mental health can have ups and downs.

PMA in the community

Working with those who have experienced mental health problems, our arts programme features drama, creative writing and visual art groups in Glasgow East; offering people the chance to communicate creatively via the arts, raising awareness of mental health in the local community, whilst also promoting recovery.

PMA and young people

We have developed a successful curriculum pack with teacher training sessions and support to ensure schools are able to deliver the informative and fun pack in Personal and Social Education lessons. The pack has also been adapted for use in youth work.

PMA and people seeking asylum

We’re working with various organisations to improve understanding of mental health within asylum seeker and refugee communities and to ensure that services are more aware of the complex and diverse needs of this group.

PMA and later life

PMA is working with older people to support them to raise awareness of mental health in their communities.

PMA and the public sector

We provide mental health awareness workshops to public sector employees, promoting good practice, paying particular attention to people working on the front line who have regular contact with the general public.

PMA in the workplace

Providing management and employees with mental health awareness sessions, and developing mental health and well being policies is one of the most effective things we do. PMA can help organisations reduce stigma, improve performance, retain staff and ensure better mental health is part of every working day.
