Background

Healthy Active Promotion of Positive Youngsters (The HAPPY Club) was established in April 2007 to reduce the isolation of families in the east end of Glasgow who have one or more children affected by disability and enable them to have a healthier, more fulfilling lifestyle.

The organisation has been very active in its first year and successfully established a range of tailored support services for its members. For example, young members can access sports and/or arts activities whilst their parents enjoy a period of respite and empathic support.

Additional funding awarded during 2007/08 enabled the group to double the number of activity sessions to 2 evenings per week.

Future

The next stage of the expansion plans is to close recognised gaps for pre-5’s and teenagers through discrete service provision. In addition the group are researching opportunities to facilitate better integration with able-bodied children.
