Lodging House MIssionLodging House Mission

Lodging House Mission has been providing a safe environment for men and women affected by the issues associated with homelessness for more than 100years.

Food and support

Our kitchen provides heavily subsidised, or free, hot meals and our experienced support team takes care of an individual’s immediate needs and assists in such matters as benefits, housing etc.

Education and activities

Our education and activities programme allows service users to engage in a variety of different courses.

For a period we have secured Lottery Funding, which has allowed us to expand our plans, attract new partnerships and increase the number of courses we offer. The majority of these are held at LHM however, as confidence and skills grow, a growing number of men and women move further afield to continue their learning and work experience in colleges or partner organisations.

Courses fall mainly into two categories; confidence building or vocational and the range of courses we are able to offer grows steadily.

P2E = Pathways to Empowerment

Wise group:

CV writing, interview techniques, training/work placements.

Steps to Recovery

4 week programme that looks at making meaningful lifestyle changes.

Scottish Opera

3 month project with the Scottish Opera to develop singing skills, acting and writing.

Ready Steady go! – Drop in: preparing for next step in training/college/volunteering/employment.

Attending courses

We regularly have more than 100 service users attending classes each week and we regularly award certificates and submit work for national qualifications.

Most courses are aimed at uncovering new talents and increasing knowledge and skills, but recently two Recovery Groups have been introduced. Often service users will engage in a number of courses but until they address addiction issues, it is unlikely they will make sustainable changes. LHM also offers one-to-one sessions for those seeking more intimate and confidential counseling.

Partnerships

We have established a number of successful partnerships but our most active is with John Wheatley College.  The Learning Centre refurbishment they financed has provided us with the physical heart to our Education Programme and service users who previously peeked through its windows apprehensively, have now enrolled and are progressing well.

Other successful partnerships have been forged with GalGael, Glasgow Life, Simon Community, Momentum, Cruden Construction, Daldowie Garden Furniture and Milestones. Many others have taken part in events we have hosted.

Future

We are moving towards establishing a comprehensive, city-wide support system to assist men and women affected by homelessness to live more independent and productive lives.
